Yeah, my final project for Art 140 (Visual Thinking). It's about 75% done here. The point of the assignment is to take 2 verbs, assigned by the teachers, that describe you, and make a "bed" that represents them. My words were "Voluptous" and "Masochistic" of which I have represented both.
The box is 12 x 12, made of white pine (my dad helped me construct it). I have spray-laquered it w/black laquer and then (you can't see it in the picture) I splattered that w/red laquer.
The inside of the box is black satin and some sort of red material, like what they make prom dresses out of, I don't know the name of it.
On the "bed" there is a rosary made of purple and black amethysts and silver pieces, representational of "voluptuous" since, until, like, 100 years ago, only royalty could afford to wear purple garments, it's rather extravagant (the rosary is in reference of all the jewel-incrusted goodies decorating the Vatican). Also on the bed there will be (they'll go on last, 'cause I still have to close the box), dead rose petals.
Then the four sides of the box will be dotted w/different lengths of nails, driven through from the outside (this takes FOREVER, I did the top tonight and it took almost an hour), which will also tear holes in the fabric on the inside and look really cool, representational of "masochism".
So, yeah, I'll post a final product as well, when I am done. I hope I get a good grade I've worked my ass off on this sucker, this here, right now, is about 9 hours of work on my part.
Oh, yeah, the open ends of the box will be sealed w/plexiglass (one side already is), that I have sprayed w/the laquer as well.

some of my research for this project:
as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary:
bed: 1. a piece of furniture on or in which to lie and sleep 2. a place of sexual relations 3. a place for marital relationships MY definition (they had us do this in class: a place in which to lie where trust is put to the test and intimacy is guaranteed
voluptuous: 1. full of delight or pleasure to the senses, conducive to or arising from sensuous or sensual gratification 2. suggesting sensual pleasure by fullness and beauty of form.
masochistic: 1. a sexual perversion characterized by pleasure in being subjected to pain or humilation (<-- not so much), especially by a love object (O.o wtf?) 2. pleasure in being abused or dominated, a taste for suffering (yeah, again, not so much, I generally don't react to pain at all).

Yeah, gotta love when the teachers assign the words. I can deal with voluptuous 'cause it's true, I got boobs, but I don't think being unresponsive to pain makes me a masochistic but whatever, I've been able to work with the words and like what I've done
Progress, 6 December 2006:
Yeah, 3 hours of work here on my part. It's almost done, this is at about 95% completion. I changed the rosary around a bit. I haven't done it yet, but I'm going to nail it to the sides and ceiling of the box so that it frames the window you look thru and I have to add more nails to the left hand side. Aside from the small stuff like that, all I have left to do is pluck the rose petals and place them in the box, then seal it off and it will be done
yeah, my poor fingers can't wait for this thing to be complete, lol.
